Get Out the Vote in Virginia! Letter Writing Party at Pomella

Join us at Pomella restaurant in Oakland for a letter writing party on Wednesday, October 11 to help get out the vote in Virginia.

Most of you remember the effort we put into flipping Virginia blue four years ago. The Virginia Democrats did not disappoint, using their control of the legislature and governor's office to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, raise teacher pay, abolish the death penalty, and pass important legislation on voting rights, gun safety, LGBTQ+ rights and more. Two years ago, however, Republicans won the elections for governor and won control of the House of Delegates. The Democrats' small majority in the senate has prevented the worst from happening, but it's crucial to win back control of the entire legislature this year to make sure reproductive rights, voting rights, LGBTQ+ rights and progress on climate change are protected.

Vote Forward letters are a data-validated, effective way to increase the participation of infrequent voters. It is even more effective in low-turnout elections, such as the 2023 Virginia legislative elections (with no offices at the top of the ticket) are likely to be. We are participating in Vote Forward's letter writing campaign for the November Virginia elections. The first letters will be sent out October 1, around the time early voting starts in Virginia (thanks to the Democrats). The more letters we can prepare and send, the more Democrats will turn out and the closer we get to victory.

Time is getting short so it's time to roll up our sleeves (to avoid ink stains), grab our pens and start writing.
